Mrs. Spurlock was born May 24, 1959 in Irwin County to the late Herman Joseph Nugent, Sr., and Nell Rose Solomon Nugent. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Barney Nugent. Mrs. Spurlock was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Alapaha and was a registered nurse. She had lived in Berrien County and Ocilla for most of her life. Rose was very active in her church where she was a lifetime member, taught Sunday School and was very involved in the youth ministry. In 2006 Rose received the Bishop Gartland Service Award in 2006 for outstanding work and contribution to the church. Her first loves were God and the Catholic Faith and her family. Rose started working at TRMC in July, 1993 and received her Associate of Science in Nursing from ABAC (1993) and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from South University (2016). She loved nursing and was a  very compassionate caregiver. She was a dedicated employee and was looking forward to earning her 30 years of service pin (it was one of her goals). In 2014 she was awarded the Jensen-Patrick Nursing Excellence Award. Rose loved cooking and baking for family get-togethers.  Her grandchildren and great grandchild were very special to her and she loved spending time with them. She never missed a family reunion and loved getting together with family, especially with her sisters for birthdays and tea parties.

Rose was very patriotic and was working to become a Daughter of the American Revolution (she had recently found the necessary paperwork to complete the application). Her hobbies were gardening, canning and freezing vegetables from the family garden, genealogy and ancestry, traveling and taking photos. Rose’s favorite charities were Cross Catholic Outreach and Georgia Sons of Confederate Veterans. She was affectionately known as “Rosie” to her parents and siblings.

Mrs. Spurlock is survived by her husband, Charles Dixon “Dick” Spurlock of Ocilla to whom she was married for forty-five years; her daughter, Carla Spurlock Akridge of Ocilla; two sons and daughter-in-law, Casey and Kelly Spurlock of Alapaha and Kyle and Hannah Spurlock of Ocilla; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
