Peggy (Sumner) Barrentine

Enigma, Georgia

Mrs. Peggy “Peggie” Sumner Barrentine, 77, of Enigma passed away on Monday, August 2, 2021, at Tift Regional Medical Center.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at Enigma Cemetery with Rev. Dana Swain and Rev. John Curtis Falotico officiating. No public visitation will be held.

Ben Barrentine, Brady Barrentine, Loren Griffin, Michael Dennard, Richard Eshleman, Dave Connell and Sylas Griffin will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Barrentine was born July 26, 1944 in Irwin County to the late Ralph James Sumner and Lillian Kendrick Sumner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sister-in-law, Bobby Sumner, Eulynn and Helen Sumner. Mrs. Barrentine was a member of Enigma Baptist Church and strong in her faith. Her greatest accomplishments were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Barrentine was an excellent cook, she was known for her signature dressing, buttermilk pies, pound cakes and passed these recipes on to her granddaughters. She loved fishing, playing the piano and hosting get together for family and friends at the Pond House and Lake House. Always taking care of others.

Mrs. Barrentine is survived by the love of her life of sixty years her husband, James Bentley Barrentine, her son, Ben Barrentine and Tory Bauman; her daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Dave Connell; her grandchildren, Loren Griffin and Joye Hobby, Macey Connell and Michael Dennard, Brady Barrentine and Fallon Ratliff, JoLynn Barrentine and Brighton Bauman; her great grandchildren, Sylas Griffin and Harlee Dennard; her sister-in-law, Barbara Sumner and  Diane Collins, her cousin more like a sister. She was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank ICU-Nursing Staff and Doctors at Tift Regional Medical Center for a phenomenal job of taking care of their mother.
