Myra (Bell) Owens

February 21, 1940 — January 5, 2018

Tifton – Mrs. Myra Bell Owens, 77, of Tifton died Friday, January 5, 2018 at her home surrounded by family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 A.M. in Eastside Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Norris officiating.  Graveside rites will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

Pallbearers will be Blake Owens, Tom Patterson, Jim Patterson, Darrell Braswell, Phil Beach, and Dale Darveau.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Pink Ladies Auxiliary of Tift Regional Medical Center and The Ruth Class of Eastside Baptist Church. Mrs. Owens was an active volunteer and member of both groups.

Born February 21, 1940 in Moultrie, she was the daughter of Thomas Dewitt Bell, the former Chief of Police in Moultrie, and his wife Irene Myers Bell.  A graduate of Moultrie High School, Class of 1958, Mrs. Owens attended Valdosta State University.  She was employed by the City of Tifton in the Tax Office.  She retired from the City as Tax Supervisor after a distinguished career of twenty- three years.

Myra was an excellent grandmother who loved spending time with her grandchildren.  She enjoyed working in her yard as well as decorating her home.  Myra was a very giving person who was always willing to help others.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill Owens, their son Thomas Dewitt Owens, and her sister Dorothy Bell Patterson.

Her survivors include her son, Bobby Owens and wife Shan of Tifton; son Steve Owens of Douglas; stepdaughter, Rhonda Owens Johnson of Port St. Joe, FL; stepdaughter, Shelly Diane Hines and husband Edwin of Donaldsonvillle; grandchildren, Blake Owens and Anna Claire Owens of Tifton; and sister, Sallie Humphreys of Austin, TX, along with a large extended family.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks and gratitude for the excellent care of Myra to Jennifer Level and Rosetta Spicer as well as the Hospice of Tiftarea staff and to special friends Pat Howell and Jean Gay for their love and support.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Myra Bell Owens’s memory may be made to Hospice of Tiftarea, P.O. Drawer 747, Tifton, Ga. 31793.
