Mrs. Martha Jane Lindsey Shannon, 84 of Tifton died Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at Heart of Georgia Hospice in Perry.
A graveside funeral service will be held Sunday, November 8, 2020, 2:00 P.M. in Oakridge Cemetery with Rev. Gary Cadwell officiating. A eulogy will be given by family members. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening November 7, 2020 from 6 :00 - 8:00 P.M.at Albritton Funeral Directors. Covid precautions are strongly encouraged.
Her grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Shannon was born May 19, 1936 in Tift County to the late William Wright Lindsey and Georgia Hall Lindsey. She was the widow of John Earl Shannon who died November 22, 2018 and to whom she was married for sixty- five years at his death. She was also preceded in death by her brother James Lindsey.
She was a homemaker and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Kelltown. Mrs. Shannon spent most of her adult life on the farm where she was born. She was a homemaker, but she was first and foremost a hardworking farmer's wife. She was a woman of faith and very active in her church where she sang in the choir, was a deacon’s wife, taught children's Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed gardening and was an expert seamstress. Mrs. Shannon loved her family especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Milton Rousey of Tifton, Becky and Ronnie Sumner of Chula; one son and daughter-in-law, Wes and Rhonda Shannon of Tifton; six grandchildren, Hank and Amy Sumner, Will Rousey and Martine Pearce, Clark and Ashley Sumner, Rachel and Ryan Futch, Marc and Joy Shannon and Maggie Shannon; nine great grandchildren, Hannah Sumner, Bailie Sumner, Garrett Sumner, Landon Desjarlias, Chandler Harper, Waylon Sumner, John Henry Sumner, Logan Sumner, Lily Kate Shannon, and due in 2021, Clay Futch and Jes Shannon. Also three great-great grandchildren, Mason Sumner, Hartleigh Sumner and Charlie Sumner, two sisters, Katherine and Hugh Webb of Tifton, Edna and Bill Willis of Omega and one brother Jack and Julie Lindsey of York Pennsylvania.
