Kenneth “Kenny” Malcom Sirmans of Chula passed away peacefully at his home on January 2, 2021 with his family at his side.
Born August 14, 1932 in Irwin County, he was the son of George Washington Sirmans and Eunie Whitley Sirmans Talley both of whom preceded him in death. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Leon Sirmans, George Sirmans and his infant brother Gene Sirmans and his infant sister, Wilmoth Sirmans. Mr. Sirmans was a member of First Baptist Church of Chula since 1960. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Leonard F. Mason during the Korean conflict. He was an avid horseman in his younger days, competing in rodeos across the southeast with close friends Glenn Taylor, Jim Hancock, Pete Hays, and Burl Little. His love of horses and cattle was surpassed only by his love for his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sue Talley Sirmans; children, Walt and wife Diane Sirmans of Simpsonville SC and Leesa and husband Shane Coley of Statham GA; beloved grandchildren: Benjamin and Isabell Coley of Tioga TX, Anna and Chris Oliver of Arnoldsville GA, and Matthew and Meredith Sirmans of Greensboro NC; and his most cherished great-grandchildren, the joys of his life: Kate, Lily, Margaret, Josephine, Connor, Estelle, and a 7th due this Spring.
He is also survived by three sisters, Zelma Hargett and Zereta Alsobrook both of Tifton GA and Mary Kate Bruce of Rutledge GA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Buddy and Wilhelmina Talley of Chula GA; brother-in-law, Earl Branch and one very special sister-in-law, June Branch whom he loved dearly; and many special nieces and nephews.
A small graveside service is scheduled for Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. at Oak Ridge Cemetery with military honors. Rev. Dan Eidson and Rev. Chad Hall will be officiating. Covid restrictions and social distancing guidelines will be followed.
Benjamin Coley, Matthew Sirmans, Chris Oliver, Michael Alsobrook, Cal Carpenter, Roderick Gaines and Gerard Ascani will serve as pall bearers.
Honorary pallbearers are Richard Hargett, Jimmy Sirmans, Dr. and Mrs. Joe Turner, George and Marilyn Wright, Theodosia Flowers, Dr. Steve Rigdon, Michael Arnold, and Danny Bailey.
