Ferol Deane (McCook) Deberry

March 21, 1937 — August 27, 2022

Ms. Ferol Deane McCook Deberry, 85, of Tifton, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia.

A Memorial service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Thursday, September 22, 2022 in the chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 5:45 P.M. at the funeral home before the service.

Ferol DeBerry, the oldest of J.D. and Dora McCook's three children, was born in Tifton, Georgia, on the first day of Spring in 1937. She spent her childhood and teen years in Tifton happily exploring the fields, woods and ponds of the family farm along with her brother, J.R. McCook, her sister, Gail Hogsten, and several cousins. While her siblings and cousins were spread across the world during their younger years, most returned to Tifton in time.

After marrying, Ferol raised four children: Larry Weaver of Tifton, Deborah Waller of Huntsville, Alabama, and Sherry Cirmo and Roger Weaver, both of Jacksonville, FL. Due to her husband's career moves, Ferol spent a number of years living in multiple locations in Florida during the NASA rapid-growth period, mostly on the Atlantic coast of Florida from Jacksonville down through the Space Coast area. Looking back at her life, Ferol found it interesting that she experienced the terror of the Soviet Cold War first-hand with artillery installations in her town during the Cuban Missile Crisis, yet she later walked without fear through Russia while on a post-retirement tour.

Ferol spent her early years as a homemaker -- with four children and frequent household moves, she had no time for an outside job. After she returned to Tifton and her children grew older, Ferol accepted a full-time position with Union Camp. She spent 20 years in the Human Resources department, ultimately as HR manager of the Tifton plant workforce. She continued many cherished relationships from those years even after she retired.

Ferol pursued many hobbies over her life. As a homemaker, she enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, as well as produce canning. She was an extraordinary seamstress who once custom-tailored a suit for her husband. She was a talented amateur photographer. Her favorite hobby, however, spanned from her early childhood to the end of her life, and that was reading. Ferol was interested in a wide range of subjects, both fiction and non-fiction. She never ran out of subjects to explore.

More than anything else, Ferol enjoyed laughing, dancing, and socializing with her family and friends. Her love and laughter will be missed.

Ferol was preceded in death by her mother, Dora Elizabeth Barnes McCook and father, James Daniel McCook. She is survived by her four children, Larry Weaver (Judy), Deborah Waller (Mark Cizek), Sherry Cirmo (Bill), and Roger Weaver (Cristina); nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; her brother, J.R. McCook (Genie), her sister, Gail Hogsten (Bill), her uncle, Don Barnes, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Albritton Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
