Emma Lou (Powell) Wiggins

Mrs. Emma L. Wiggins, 94, of Tifton passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia.

Her funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors with Rev. Stanley Tyson officiating.  The interment will follow in Tift Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Monday evening at the funeral home from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M.

Stephen Young, Terry Young, Luis Martinez, Jake York, Blake York and Dennis Wiggins will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Wiggins, Wade Wiggins, Jody Wiggins, Larry Delaney and Kerry Wiggins.

Mrs. Wiggins was born July 28, 1927, in Toombs County, Georgia where she graduated from high school.  She was the daughter of the late Walter Powell and Willie Carpenter Powell.  She married the love of her life Rev. Joe Wiggins and together they had nine boys.  She was preceded in death by her husband Joe who died on June 21, 2018; her three sons, Meredith Wayne Wiggins, Gary Howard Wiggins and Charles Thomas Wiggins and numerous brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Emma retired from Queen Carpet after nearly fifteen years of employment as a machine operator.   She was a member of Unity Tabernacle Holiness Church where her husband was the minster for thirty years.  She loved gardening, canning, cooking singing, playing the piano and sewing.

She is survived by six sons and their spouses, Ronnie Joe and Martha Wiggins of Pembroke, Hugh Dennie and Hazel Wiggins of Rincon, George Timothy Wiggins of Tifton, David and Wanda Wiggins of Tifton, Tony Green Wiggins of Milledgeville and Jerry Powell Wiggins of Tifton; two daughters-in-law Jean Wiggins of Statesboro and Helen Wiggins of Tifton; twenty grandchildren; forty-eight great grandchildren and seventeen great- great grandchildren.
