E. Larry Carr

Ernest Larry Carr, 81, of Tifton, Ga, went to his Heavenly Home Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, Ga.

A memorial service will be held at Albritton Funeral home on Friday, November 30th at 3:00 PM with Reverend Lock Wilford and Rev. Craig Nalls officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00 – 2:30 prior to the memorial service at the funeral home.

Mr. Carr was born on September 12, 1937 in Irwin County, Georgia. He was married to the love of his life, Kay Carr, for 58 years.  He was a member of New River Baptist Church for over 40 years and served as the Director of music for 20 years and also served as a Deacon.  Mr. Carr had a calling for music, enjoying any type of gospel music. In particular, he enjoyed gospel quartets in the traditional format and frequently participated in them.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Artie Carr, brothers Dalton and Shirley Carr, J.B. Carr, and Monroe Carr. In addition to his wife, Kay Carr, he is survived by; two sisters, Joyce Faye Bryant and Janice Luke (Morris); two sons - Keith Carr (Allison), and Kelly Carr (Jackie); seven grandchildren - Canaan Carr, Mycah Carr, Austin Carr, Ashley Carr, Christian Carr, Chelsea Gay, and Cam Clements and one great grandchild, Willough Gay; sisters in law, Marthalyn Carr, Janie Carr and Lynn and Wayne Henderson, Mother-in-law, Helen Hancock “MeMa”, brother-in-law, Ken Hancock and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Carr graduated from Tift County High School and attended Norman College. He served his early years in the United States Navy as a radio/sonar operator. He later worked for the United States Postal Service holding positions as a letter carrier, assistant postmaster, and Postmaster. He was an avid outdoorsman loving hunting, fishing, and a passion for wildlife. He loved working in his garden and growing fruit. He was also a good carpenter who loved not only building things but enjoyed teaching his children those skills as well. After retirement he spent 10 years as a local business co-owner in Dublin, Ga and actively participated in the community.

Another passion was his lifelong friendships he made from the graduating “Class of ’55.” He was an active member of the scholarship fund and enjoyed the annual local class get togethers.
