Douglas "Doug" James Dolney

Mr. Douglas "Doug" James Dolney, 80 of Tifton died Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Maple Court Senior Care in Tifton, Ga.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 in the chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors with Rev. Stacy Phillips officiating and Tommy Nalls giving the eulogy. The private burial will be held at a later date.  The family will receive friends before the service on Tuesday from 1:30 to 2:30 at the funeral home.

The staff of Maple Court Senior Care, Traditions Hospice and retired AT&T co-employees will all serve as honorary pallbearers.

Doug grew up in Langenburg, Saskatchewan, Canada as the only child of the late Henry and Sheila Dolney.  After graduating from the Langenburg High School in 1961, he joined the Royal Canadian Army where he served for three and half years.  He then headed to California to work on the oil rigs before volunteering to join the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict.  He served in the Army from 1968 to 1971.Upon returning to the United States he went to work for the Southern Railway because of his love for trains.  On April 21, 1972 he married the love of his life Priscilla whom he had met while ice-skating.  He held her up that day they met and he has been holding her up ever since.   After working with Southern Railway for one and half years he then went to work for AT& T and worked as a telephone technician for the next thirty-eight years.  In 1980 he transferred to Tifton and in 1983 he became a United States citizen.  He was a member of Northside Baptist Church where he had previously served as a deacon, attended The Tommy Nall's Sunday School Class and volunteered on many mission trips including some to Africa, Arizona, Jamaica and his home country of Canada.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Priscilla Fletcher Dolney of Tifton, his two daughters and sons-in-law, Shannon and Trevor Perla of Tifton and Shauna and Justin Mahaffie of Woodbine, Ga, and two grandchildren, Allison Mahaffie and Haley Mahaffie.
