Leon Orville “Buddy” Gaskins, 93, of Tifton passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018 at his residence.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, February 1st at 2:00 p. m. in Oakridge Cemetery with military honors. Rev. Benjy Varnell will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.
Mr. Gaskins was born September 10, 1924 in Berrien County to the late Leon Gaskins and Rebecca Roberts Gaskins. He was married to Vivian Barrineau Gaskins for seventy-two years. Mr. Gaskins was preceded in death by one brother, Emory Bristol Gaskins. He was a retired realtor and appraiser. Mr. Gaskins was a Veteran of the United States Air Force during WWII. He served his country with honor as a pilot of P-47 airplanes. Mr. Gaskins was a member of First United Methodist Church of Tifton. He was a 1949 graduate of Georgia Tech and had lived in Tift County most of his life where he was the first licensed realtor and appraiser. Mr. Gaskins was a former member of the Lion’s Club and was the broker for bringing the Tifton Mall to town. He loved his family and was a wonderful father and uncle and an avid golfer.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Gaskins is survived by one daughter, Marcia Gaskins of Valdosta; one son, Mark Gaskins of St. Augustine, Fla; one sister, Jan Fussell of Ocilla; one sister-in-law, Mamie Gaskins of Alapaha and several nieces and nephews.
